Dacuda achieved excellent result at the SOLA race

A record number of 880 teams and more than 12'000 runners competed on the 116 km course of the 39th SOLA relay race on Saturday, May 5, 2012. After our first participation last year, team Pixelpunks of Dacuda was once more ready to prove its heroic fighting spirit.

Unfortunately the weather had it in on us – some of us struggled with rain and mud, but nevertheless, it was great fun and in the spirit of “one for all and all for one” everybody gave his best performance and contributed to the remarkable team result: 116 km in 9:24:40 hours and the excellent rank 139 out of 880.

After the race, we met at Michael’s place to celebrate this great achievement with delicious food and drinks. Special thanks go to Norman for his initiative and for organizing everything.

After the race in the Irchel Park: Tobias, Norman, Simon, Martina, Michael, Hannes, Erik, Barbara (from left to right). Not in the picture: Angela, Dotan, Lionel, Piotr, Sven.

Dacuda Explores New Frontiers

On Thursday 29th and Friday 30th of September Dacuda took two days off in order to experience the icy world of the Aletsch Glacier in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Leaving at 6.30 am for an almost 5 hours train trip, we arrived at noon on the famous Jungfraujoch on 3500 meters above sea level. At the rope of the mountain guides we started the more than twelf kilometers long hike across the breathtaking Great Aletsch Glacier. We crossed deep crevasses, looked into the even deeper holes of glacier mills and had more than once to challenge our acrophobia.

The Aletsch Glacier hike was an unique experience for everybody and the weather was more than perfect for such an undertaking. Dacuda can be proud of its employee’s fitness and the cliché of nerds being just coach potatoes was definitely proved wrong.

Rope team 2 posing before the start

Rope team 1 on the glacier heading to Konkordiaplatz

What could be down there?

Ahead on the rock ledge the Konkordia Hut is waiting for us

Thanks to global warming the glacier lost already 150 meters and stairs had to be built to access the hut

What a cozy nest!?

Sunset at Konkordia Hut

Going back down on to the glacier

Queuing for the new iPhone?

It became even steeper...

... and we had to jump across deep crevasses...

or balance on icy ridges

Rope team 1&2 happily reunited

Michael at Swissmem Panel

"Industry with a future" was the topic of the Industry Day 2011 held by Swissmem, the Swiss association representing mechanical and electrical engineering industries. Our CFO and co-founder Michael Born was invited to speak at the panel discussion along with Andreas Wieland, CEO of Hamilton and Dr. Manuel Aschwanden, president of the Optotune AG. The panel was moderated by Christine Maier, host of "The Club" of Swiss Television.

How can Swiss Industry be successful in the future? What are the challenges and chances of the global competition? These and more questions were discussed in front of an audience of 1300 participants. “The access to highly skilled labour is a key requirement for our business success", explained Born. "Despite the high educational standards in Switzerland, there is a clear shortage of engineers such as computer vision developers and other experts. Switzerland has to find answers to these challenges quickly. Closing our labor market to the EU is certainly not the answer. We do need these experts, both from the EU and the rest of the world. And we should be happy if we get these people here and should welcome them with open hearts."

The Industry Day is held annually. It constitutes a platform for open dialogue and the interconnection between politicians, industry, theoreticians, the financial sector and society.

Moving to new headquarters

Dacuda keeps growing! We started with four people in a tiny garage/cellar room at ETH Zurich. Today, we occupy already a whole floor of an ETH building and still grow further. This means that we finally have to say good bye to the nice ETH campus. However, we are very excited about this move since our offices are pretty modern with a lot of glass walls, provide over 600 m² of space, and are located in one of the most vibrant parts in the center of Zurich.

Tomorrow, it is time for us to pack our stuff and move to the new location.

From Monday, July 4, you can reach us at the following address:

Dacuda AG
Badenerstrasse 141
8004 Zurich
Switzerland

Visit us on Facebook to find more pictures of the move and our new office!
